Lot 724 Colt M1911A1 .45 ACP #861409

WWII era U.S. military contract single action semi-automatic service pistol chambered in .45 Automatic Colt Pistol, manufactured in Hartford, CT circa 1943. Currently fitted with a commercial slide. Features a parkerized refinish, 5" barrel, fixed blade front sight with red paint, dovetailed ramped square notch Millet rear sight (not original), solid serrated curved trigger, serrated trigger guard, checkered hammer spur, short metal guide rod, checkered recoil spring plug, checkered manual safety on the left side of the frame, smooth grip safety, serrated push-button magazine release, seven-round magazine, steel frame, checkered flat mainspring housing, and checkered brown wood grips. The slide is marked, “COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A., "PAT'D APR.20,1897. SEPT.9, 1902. DEC.19,1905. FEB.14,1911. AUG.19,1913.” The frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY," "No861409," "M1911A1 U.S.ARMY", crossed cannon emblem (partial), "G.H.D." (Col. Guy H. Drewry), and a "P". It appears that this pistol has been refinished. The parkerized refinish retained is approximately 96% with edge wear, and a few very light scattered scratches. Metal displays rust on the right side of the frame by the trigger guard, and one of the rust spots looks like there was slight metal loss. Bore is bright with strong rifling. The grips are good with blemishes, and what appears to be water damage in the middle of the left grip panel. The action is smooth and crisp.
